Is it as simple as a good eye cream?

I’m asked quite often about my recommendations for anti-aging eye treatments.

Yes, I have anti-aging eye products that I like, but I’d be remiss if I answered this question without talking about the REST of the story: an anti-aging protocol can’t only be topical!

Keeping the skin healthy and resilient – as it’s meant to be throughout our entire lives – begins from the inside. The best anyone can do – whether young or old, and whatever the goals, whether to fight acne or to fight aging, is to follow an anti-inflammatory diet, rich in nutrients and low in foods that can irritate digestion.

The diet also needs to be rich in foods that help provide and maintain the structure of the skin itself – collagen, vitamin C, vitamin A, and antioxidants, to name a few (all of which are discussed in the Purely Primal Skincare Guide).

Here’s something that people miss when I make statements about nutrition: when I say the diet needs to be rich in nutrients, that means DON’T DIET. You absolutely cannot provide your body with all the nutrients it needs to maintain healthy tissue if you’re living on lettuce, chicken breast and “light” dressings for fear of gaining weight. You need good, nourishing food. You need healthy fats and rich, satisfying foods. If you feel your skin is aging prematurely, evaluate how much nutrition you’re actually giving your skin. My book, Eat the Yolks, gives a comprehensive rundown of why fat – and even added nutritious calories – do NOT drive the accumulation of body fat!

Now, on to the question: topical treatments for the eyes should nourish the delicate skin around the eyes, but they don’t need to be applied with a heavy hand. Almost any treatment you use on the skin of your face can be used on the eyes. Regenerative natural oils, dabbed around the eyes at nighttime as an overnight “treatment” can be useful. Be sure not to apply too thickly, as eye treatments can easily migrate into the eyes and cause irritation.

I like dabbing on a light amount of simple shea butter, as well as treatments like Egyptian Magic that include some royal jelly, which is highly nutritive.

The Infiniti line from Primal Life Organics is excellent.

The Eye Revive from Buffalo Gal Grassfed is excellent as well.

I have been impressed by the eye creams, including the coffee bean eye cream, from 100 Percent Pure.
