Let’s face it…we all get a little stressed out at times.
Chronic stress can take a toll on your health. It also wreaks havoc on your skin. The skin and mind are intertwined, therefore, if you are feeling nervous or anxious, your skin can suffer. This anxiety can aggravate already existing skin conditions: acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and beyond. When your body is tense it may release stress hormones, making you more prone to outbreaks. Along with increased anxiety comes gastrointestinal issues. (More on the skin-brain-gut connection can be found in the Purely Primal Skincare Guide.)
How can you alleviate some of the stress in your life? There are many ways you can de-stress – none of which should become a daunting task. Stress relief should never become stressful in itself! It should be something you enjoy and take pleasure in doing – a fun and uplifting activity.
We have a few tips on how to beat stress – Skintervention Style.
#1: Deep Breathing
Take a few deep breaths. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale.
Yes, Dance! You might be surprised how therapeutic a little dancing can be.
All forms of exercise are beneficial. CrossFit. Yoga. Meditation. Running. Walking. Whatever suits your fancy.
#4: Indulge in a Healthy Fat
There’s nothing wrong with healthy fat, and often our cravings for junk are actually our body telling us we need a healthy fat! Instead of reaching for a candy bar, try some walnuts or almonds. They are rich in protein, fiber, and zinc – filling nutrition. You could also try coconut butter, another healthy fat source – check out Artisana’s single-serving packs!
#5: Drink Tea
C-ya later, Facebook! Easier said than done, right? Skip Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for an hour or two, or even a few days if you can. Take a break from the digital world. It will still be there when you return.
#7: Take a Hot Bath
For a relaxing salt bath, add 1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar, 1 cup Baking Soda, 1 cup Epsom Salt, and 10-15 drops of essential oil of choice. Soak for 30 minutes. You’ll be on your way to relaxation in no time. While you’re in the tub, you can even try a healing clay face mask.
Make sure you’re getting an adequate amount of zzz’s each night. There is no set number of hours of sleep per night we can recommend, but an adequate amount would be between 8-10 hours. Feel impossible? You may not be able to do it every day, but allowing yourself to sleep in on the weekends when possible is a great start.
